Pain management workshop to be held - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is partnering with the Michigan State University Extension Office and the NEMCSA Area Agency on Aging to provide a six-week PATH Workshop on Chronic Pain Management. PATH stands for Personal Action Toward Health and was developed and tested by Stanford University. Participants learn skills such as goal-setting, dealing with pain and fatigue, communicating with health care professionals, and managing medications. This six-week workshop series will be held on Wednesdays from 9-11:30 a.m. each week, starting January 16 at MSUE Extension Office, 501 Norway Street, Suite #2. American Legion Auxiliary to meet - The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Tuesday, January 8. The group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month.
Free legal assistance available - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, in partnership with the Jason R. Thompson, Law Office PLC, is offering free legal assistance on the third Thursday of each month from 1-4 p.m. Appointments are available for older adults, age 60 and over, in Crawford County. These consultations are designed to see if your issue really needs an attorney, to what extent you need legal services, and when retaining an attorney might be needed. Local garden club to meet - The Kirtland Garden Club, a local group, will conduct its January meeting at the Houghton Lake Library, Prudenville, on Monday, January 14, at 12 p.m. Meeting will include a 40-minute webinar by Janet Draper, Horticulturist, from the Mary Livingston Ripley Garden, Smithsonian Institute. “Passion, Plants and Perseverance” is a presentation of diverse plant life from around the world. Coffee hour for veterans to be held - The Crawford County Veteran’s Service Office will be hosting a coffee hour on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting will take place at American Legion Post #106 on Thursday, January 10, from 9-10 a.m. Coffee, tea, and doughnuts will be provided free of charge. This is an event for veterans to meet and talk with each other. It will be a social setting with no formal speeches or agenda. All veterans are welcome. Fly tying classes to begin - Fly tying classes are being offered by the Mason Griffith Founders Chapter of Trout Unlimited at the Old AuSable Fly Shop beginning on Wednesday, January 16, at 6 p.m. All equipment and materials for the seven-week class are included in the $20 fee. Dial-a-Ride to offer lunch shopping trips - On the third Friday every month, starting January 18, Dial-a-Ride will be making monthly trips to Gaylord. The trip will include lunch (self-pay) at different restaurants around Gaylord and a trip to the Walmart Plaza for shopping. The cost will be $10 per person. Bus will leave Grayling at 10:30 a.m. Lunch in Gaylord will be around 11:30 a.m. Shopping will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2/2:30 p.m. The bus will be parked in the Walmart lot so if you get done shopping early, you can get back on the bus. Due to limited parking at the COA, passengers will be picked up at the Mini Mall at 10:30 a.m. Park your vehicle on the south side of the car wash. The bus will then travel to Frederic and pick up people at the Frederic Township Hall between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Park on the north end of the parking lot in Frederic.
