Chili cook-off to benefit GHS teams - Grayling High School’s girls basketball and girls soccer programs are hosting a chili cook-off fundraiser on Friday, Jan. 13, in the GHS cafeteria from 5-7 p.m. The event is taking place during a Grayling vs. East Jordan varsity basketball doubleheader. Players from the basketball and soccer teams will be entering chilis into the contest. Tickets to get in the door are $5. Tickets include three chilis, toppings, dinner roll, dessert, and drinks.
Sign up for Smart911 - The Crawford County Commission on Aging is offering a time to sign up for the Smart911 Program on Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 1-3 p.m. at the Senior Center. Smart911 is a free, new service available in the area. Once you’ve signed up, first responders will be aware of important information you have provided that may help them address your emergency during a 9-1-1 situation. This information – including medical issues, current location, and even pets – can help police, fire, and EMS locate and help you. For more information call (989) 348-7123. Beginner fly tying classes to start soon - The Mason Griffith Founders Chapter of Trout Unlimited will offer beginner fly tying classes at the Old AuSable Fly Shop starting on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m. All equipment and materials for the eight-week class are included in the $25 fee. COA Satellite Meal to be held in Lovells - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Lovells Satellite Meal on Friday, Jan. 20, at noon at the Lovells Township building. The lunch includes chicken and mushroom orecchiette, broccoli, mixed vegetables, and red grapes. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and bingo will be played after the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. Monthly euchre tournament to be held - The Frederic Parks and Recreation Committee will hold its monthly euchre tournament on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Frederic Township Hall, 6470 Manistee Street. Sign in will be held at 1 p.m. with games starting at 2 p.m. The entry fee is $20, and a prize will be awarded according to participation. All proceeds will benefit local parks and recreation projects.
