Senior Center to host cooking class - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will host a free six-session cooking class starting in March. This class is designed to help you learn ways to make cooking for one simple and enjoyable, learn tips and tricks to making healthy choices, and participate in cooking real recipes. This class is free due to a grant through DHD#10 and the partnership between the Crawford County Commission on Aging, Munson HealthCare, MSU Extension, and DHD #10. Participants receive a recipe book for the class, a vegetable peeler, a cutting board, a 3-quart slow cooker, and a $15 voucher. Classes will be held at the Senior Center from 3:30-5 p.m. on Wednesdays from March 4 through April 8. Drawing Class For Kids available - The AuSable Artisan Village’s Drawing Class For Kids, taught by Sherry Graziano, runs for three Saturdays – March 7, 14, and 21 – from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $60. Live models – a dog, a tortoise, and a bunny – will make this class a fun and easy way for youngsters to learn to draw. They will be taught to identify basic shapes and put them together to make their animals come alive. Online registration is available at https://artisanvillageclasses.coursestorm.com/browse. A Painting Class for Kids will be offered later this year.
Race to raise money for ski team - The Mike Wieland Tribute Ski Race – a fundraiser for the middle school ski team – will be held at Hanson Hills on Sunday, March 1. Entry fee is $30 for age 19 and up or $10 for 18 and under. Fee includes lift ticket and pot luck banquet. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. and races start at 1:30 p.m. Event will include age division awards. Everyone is welcome to visit, race, and/or donate.
Workshop offers help to find new hobbies - Are you feeling a pull to do something but you aren’t quite sure where you fit, or how to get started? Have you jumped into new hobbies only to soon lose interest? MSU Extension is offering a Square Peg, Square Hole: Finding the Right Fit workshop on Saturday, March 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kirtland Community College, 4800 W. 4 Mile Road. There is a $20 registration fee which includes lunch. The workshop includes a living mindfully session, a Real Colors Personality Test, and a Hobby Round Robin to help you determine what hobby is right for you. Registration is required by March 7. Meeting on ballot proposal to be held - The Crawford County Commission on Aging is hosting a Community Meeting regarding the Facility Bond Proposition that will be on the March 10 ballot. The Commission on Aging is asking for 0.3171 mills to support the acquiring, constructing, renovating, expanding, equipping, and furnishing of the Mayday Windows Building and the adjacent lot located at 4388 M-72 West (east of town by Grayling Car Care) into new facilities to house the Commission on Aging & Senior Center operations. Executive Director Alice Snyder will lead the meeting to help the public learn more about the proposal. The Community Meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. in Community Room B at Kirtland Community College located at 4800 W. 4 Mile Road.
Baby to Toddler Closet seeks donations - The local Baby to Toddler Closet needs nearly new clean toddler clothes, boys and girls 2T, 3T, 4T and 5. The Baby to Toddler Closet’s hours of opening to the children and parents are first and third Thursdays of the month, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Baby to Toddler Closet is located in the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church basement on Spruce Street.
Eagles to host Sip and Shop - The Grayling Eagles 3465 will host a Sip and Shop event on March 7 from 12-4 p.m. Event will include vendors, crafts, and paint class.
Addiction support group available - The Grayling Baptist Church (705 Madsen Street) hosts an addiction support group on Thursdays and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. For more information email email@example.com.
Church to host World Day of Prayer event - World Day of Prayer 2020 is Friday, March 6. Grayling’s Community of Christ Church on North Down River Road/Glenn Road will host a World Day of Prayer event at 1 p.m. on March 6.
Donations help with grants, scholarships - The Crawford AuSable Excellence in Education Foundation (CAEEF) provides academic scholarships to graduating students of the Crawford AuSable School District and provides funds for grants to classes and educational organizations in the district. The CAEEF is working toward its initial goal of raising $1 million.
