DHHS Assistance available at Senior Center - Department of Health and Human Services assistance appointments are available at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Diane Howland, Eligibility Specialist from Crawford County DHHS, will be at the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 8, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to take appointments. Howland will be available to meet with individuals to explain DHHS assistance programs, answer questions regarding eligibility requirements, answer case specific questions, and take applications for assistance. State rep to have office hours in Grayling - State Rep. Daire Rendon, of Lake City, will conduct office hours at Goodale’s Bakery – located at 500 Norway Street in Grayling – from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, March 3. Office hours are an opportunity for residents to meet face-to-face with the representative and ask questions, offer ideas, or share thoughts. No appointments are necessary. COA to host Energy Star Program - The Crawford County Commission on Aging will present an Energy Star Program on Thursday, March 9, at 12:15 p.m. Join Gary Lamberg from TrueNorth Community Services as he discusses how appliances and other devices are rated through the Energy Star program and about a few of the common rebates available for energy-saving devices. Come for lunch beforehand, which will include meat loaf, baked potato, broccoli, and strawberries. The cost is a suggested $3 donation for those 60 and over and a $5 charge for those under 60. Church to host ‘World Day of Prayer’ - The Community of Christ Church will present the “World Day of Prayer” at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3. This year’s country to be honored is the Philippines. The Community of Christ Church is located at the corner of North Down River Road and Glenn Court. The program is open to all.
Mahjong group to meet Wednesdays - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center Mahjong group is looking for more players. No requirements or experience needed, except the willingness to learn and have fun. Mahjong is a card game that originated in China. The game is played with four players using numbered tiles or cards. Players collect tiles with similar pictures and numbers and the player who collects the most number of sets is the winner. St. Patrick’s Dinner to be held at Senior Center - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center’s St. Patrick’s Day Dinner on Thursday, March 9, from 4-6 p.m. Dinner will feature corned beef and cabbage, roasted red skins, carrots, mixed fruit, and mint chocolate chip ice cream. The suggested donation for seniors 60 and over is $3. The price for those under 60 is $5. Dinner is open to the public and no reservations are required. Frederic Satellite Meal slated for March 10 - The Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal will be held on Friday, March 10, at noon at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes baked ham, baked sweet potato, green beans, and applesauce. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60.
