American Legion Auxiliary to meet - The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Tuesday, May 8. The group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month.
Coffee hour for veterans to be held - The Crawford County Veteran’s Service Office will be hosting a coffee hour on the second Thursday of each month. The next meeting will take place at American Legion Post #106 on Thursday, May 10, from 9-10 a.m. Coffee, tea, and doughnuts will be provided free of charge. This is an event for veterans to meet and talk with each other. It will be a social setting with no formal speeches or agenda. All veterans are welcome. Senior Center to host Mother’s Day Dinner - The Crawford County Commission on Aging invites the community to gather and celebrate Mother’s Day with a special dinner on Thursday, May 10, from 4-6 p.m. at the Senior Center. Menu includes roast beef, au gratin potatoes, green beans, fresh fruit mix, and strawberry shortcake. Dinner is open to the public and no reservations are required. The meal is a cost of $5 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street in Grayling. Walk With Ease program offered - Join MSU Extension as they present a program called Walk With Ease, a six-week, evidence based program that includes tips on safe walking indoors, discussion on osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia, how to managed pain and stiffness, and stretching and strengthening exercises. You will also learn tips on proper clothing and equipment, how to monitor physical problems, what to do when exercise hurts, and how to anticipate and overcome barriers. The class will be held 9-10 a.m. on Wednesdays, May 9, 16, 23, 30, June 6, and 13, at Grayling City Hall, 1020 City Boulevard. There is no cost for this program, which is sponsored by the Crawford County Commission on Aging. Please call to register at (989) 348-7123.  
Cookie Walk to raise money for project - The Michelson Memorial Bell Tower fundraiser effort will conduct a Cookie Walk on Sunday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Michelson Memorial Church (400 Michigan Avenue). All proceeds will go to the Michelson Memorial Bell Tower restoration project.
COA part of Loop It Challenge - The Crawford County Commission on Aging is part of the Loop it Challenge taking place in and around the City of Grayling and invites you to join them on May 9 at 11 a.m. for the official kickoff. Pick up a registration packet and join the staff for its first walk to introduce a designated one-mile walking loop. If you walk a total of 10 hours over the month and turn your sheet in, you’ll be entered into a drawing for a free Fitbit. The Crawford County Commission on Aging is located at 308 Lawndale Street. TEFAP food distribution to be held - The quarterly TEFAP food distribution will be held on Monday, May 7, at the American Legion, located at 106 James Street, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please bring identification showing current address. Line up at the back door. Please bring someone to help carry your bags if necessary.
Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Rep. Rendon invites residents to local office hours - State Rep. Daire Rendon of Lake City will sponsor local office hours in Crawford County from 9 to 10 a.m. at Goodale’s Bakery – located at 500 Norway Street in Grayling – on Friday, May 11. No appointments are necessary to attend office hours. Those who are unable to attend, but would still like to speak with the representative, may contact her Lansing office at (517) 373-3817 or
COA to conduct Frederic Satellite Meal - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, May 11, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes pepper steak, brown rice, stir fry vegetable, asparagus, and pineapple. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. The Frederic Township Hall is located at 6470 Manistee.
