COA to take bus trip to Tigers game - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will be traveling to Comerica Park to see the Detroit Tigers vs. the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, May 18. The cost of the trip is $93, which includes transportation by charter bus, game ticket, lunch voucher at the stadium, and dinner at Cracker Barrel. Memorial Ceremony to be held May 15 - Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield will be hosting a Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony on Monday, May 15, at noon in the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office (weather permitting) to honor law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. There will be an informal luncheon following the service.  
 
Garden presentation to be held at Senior Center - Join the Crawford County Commission on Aging on Tuesday, May 9, at 12:15 p.m. as it presents “Growing Your Home Garden from Seed to Fruit.” Gary Lamberg from True North Community Services will talk about growing home gardens. Come for lunch beforehand which includes shepherd’s pie, winter blend vegetable, and a fresh orange. The cost is a suggested $3 donation for those 60 and over and a $5 charge for those under 60. Presentation to discuss cancer prevention - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a free breakfast presentation on Thursday, May 4, at 9 a.m. Join Dr. Yelena Kier, DO Hematology Oncology Physician from Munson Healthcare Grayling Cancer and Infusion Center, and learn more about what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones to lower the risk of cancer. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, cranberry muffins, fresh orange, juice, and coffee. State representative to conduct local office hours - State Rep. Daire Rendon of Lake City plans to hold local office hours on Friday, May 12, from 9-10 a.m. at Goodale’s Bakery, 500 Norway Street in Grayling. Office hours give residents the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the representative and discuss any questions, concerns, or input they may have. No appointments are necessary to attend office hours. Senior Center to host Mother’s Day Dinner - The community is invited to a Mother’s Day Dinner on Thursday, May 11, from 4-6 p.m. at the Grayling Senior Center. Menu includes roast beef, scalloped potatoes, asparagus, fruit cocktail, and mixed berry pie. Dinner is open to the public and no reservations are required. The meal has a cost of $5 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over. The Commission on Aging and Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street in Grayling. Free concert to be held at Senior Center - The community is invited to attend a free live concert featuring Oh Brother Big Sister on Thursday, May 4, at 5:45 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Oh Brother Big Sister is a duo from Northern Michigan consisting of siblings Penny and Radel Rosin. Enjoy a pork roast dinner before the concert at 5 p.m. Dinner is a suggested $3 donation for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Marathon committee seeks items for garage sale - The AuSable River Canoe Marathon Committee is still seeking items for its Indoor Garage Sale event slated for Saturday, May 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Grayling Mini Mall. Money raised from the event will go toward a new scholarship fund. People can help the garage sale event by: donating items, reserving a table (at a cost of $15) to sell items, providing items for the committee to sell on consignment (80 percent to seller, 20 percent to the fundraiser effort), purchasing something at the event, or donating returnable bottles/cans to the effort. Aerobic Drumming available two days a week - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center has added a new activity to its “Fitness After Fifty” program: Aerobic Drumming. Due to the instant popularity of Aerobic Drumming, the Senior Center is now offering it on Mondays at 10 a.m. and on Thursdays at 3 p.m. Aerobic Drumming combines the development of muscular endurance and cardiovascular conditioning. Substance abuse group to meet on Tuesday - The Crawford Partnership for Substance Abuse Awareness has changed its meeting dates to the second Tuesday of each month (except July and December). The next meeting is slated for Tuesday, May 9, from 9-11 a.m. at the Grayling City Hall.
 
Frederic Satellite Meal slated for May 12 - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, May 12, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes breaded skinless chicken breast, baked sweet potato, mixed vegetables, and applesauce. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. The Frederic Township Hall is located at 6470 Manistee, Frederic.  
 
Photographic Society to meet at GMS - The Grayling Photographic Society is having its regular monthly meeting on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. at the Grayling Middle School in Room 101. Pat Runyan will do a presentation on how to photograph birds. The public is welcome.
 
MARSP to hold meeting - The Crawford-Oscoda Chapter of MARSP (Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel) will hold its annual spring meeting on Thursday, May 18, at the United Methodist Church in Mio. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon and the meeting to follow. The luncheon cost is $10. To reserve a spot, call Patty Hawkins at (989) 915-9115.
