Walk with Ease program available - Join the Crawford County Commission on Aging for a program called Walk with Ease, a six-week, evidence based program that includes tips on safe walking indoors, discussion on osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia, how to manage pain and stiffness, and stretching and strengthening exercises. You will also learn tips on proper clothing and equipment, how to monitor physical problems, what to do when exercise hurts, and how to anticipate and overcome barriers. Classes will be begin on June 4 from 9-10 a.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center at 308 Lawndale Street. Participants must pay a $15 fee to cover the educational materials. Beaver Creek offers Large Item Clean-Up Day - Beaver Creek Township will conduct a Large Item Clean-Up Day for its residents on Saturday, June 8, from 8 a.m. to noon at the transfer site located at 8756 S. Grayling Road. Items allowed: household furniture such as tables, chairs, sofas, and mattresses. Items not allowed: building materials, yard waste, car parts, appliances with freon, hazardous liquids/materials, tires. You must have a current dump sticker permit (white with black bar code). 
 
D.A.R.E. Golf Outing set for June 20 - The Crawford County Sheriff's Office has scheduled the annual D.A.R.E. Golf Outing at the Grayling Country Club on Thursday, June 20. This outing does have the opportunity to win a car, sponsored by Matt LaFontaine Automotive & Feeny Ford, by making a hole-in-one on hole #5 or #7. This event is a fundraiser to support youth services in the schools and community, such as the D.A.R.E. program, Jr. Deputy Program, Bicycle Safety Rodeo, and multiple sponsorships toward youth activities. Senior Centers plan trip to Colorado - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is joining the Kalkaska Commission on Aging on a trip to Colorado. This nine-day trip is scheduled from September 7-15. The cost of the trip is $902 per person, which includes eight nights lodging, including four consecutive nights in Colorado; eight breakfasts and six dinners; tour of the Garden of the Gods; visit to the United States Air Force Academy; visit to the Royal Gorge, including Bridge and Aerial Team; Historic Manitou Springs; visit to the U.S. Olympic Training Center, and much more. $75 is due upon signing and the final payment is due June 30. 4-H Disc Golf SPIN Club to start - Disc Golf SPIN Club for youth 10-12 years old (as of 1/1/19) will start soon. No previous experience is necessary. Participants will learn the basics of the sport as well as coaching to improve their game. Participants do not need their own discs but may use their own if they have them. Due to the nature of the sport space is limited to five participants. The club is located at Hanson Hills Recreation Area and will take place every Monday from June 17-29 from 6-7:30 p.m.  Cost is free for registered 4-H members; if not registered, there is a $20 annual participation fee. Once registered, members can join 4-H activities for the remainder of the program year often at little or no cost. Register your child at mi.4honline.com by June 12. You can pay the $20 annual 4-H Participation Fee, if not already paid, by cash, check or credit card in person at 501 Norway Street, Suite 2 in Grayling.  Scholarships are available. Play cornhole at the Senior Center - Join the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center for a game of cornhole after dinner on Thursday, June 6, and Thursday June 20, at 5:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to come and play. This is a free activity and all skill levels are welcome. The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. For questions call (989) 348-7123.
 
Camp Grayling to conduct informational meeting - Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center will conduct a Restoration Advisory Board Informational Meeting on June 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Community Room of the Kirtland Community College Grayling Campus (4800 W. Four Mile Road). Camp Grayling is looking to create a Restoration Advisory Board to review and comment on plans and activities relating to ongoing environmental studies and restoration activities at the facility. To qualify as a Restoration Advisory Board Community Member, you should be a resident of the Grayling area who is impacted by the ongoing restoration activities because you live and/or work near Camp Grayling.
