Senior Center to host Patriotic Sing-Along - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will be hosting a Patriotic Sing-Along on Tuesday, July 3, at 5:45 p.m. Come celebrate America’s birthday and independence with an evening of music and song. Nancy Hoffman will be on the piano with Pat Fowler as the vocal song leader. No reservations are required. The sing-along is free of charge and open to the public. Enjoy a chicken fettuccine alfredo dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. prior to the event. The cost of the dinner is $5 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over. Ribbon cutting event for new pavilion back on - The Grayling Rotary Club and Grayling Recreation Authority have rescheduled a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new pavilion at Hanson Hills Recreation Area for Wednesday, June 27 (same as originally scheduled before being postponed). The event – slated for 5:30 p.m. – will feature food and beverages.
 
Summer Meal Program to start - The Summer Meal Program at the Help Center Food Pantry, 300 Huron Street, starts July 2 and runs through August 31. For families with children that attended Crawford Ausable Schools this school year. Call 348-6046 for more information.
 
Beaver Creek facilities to close July 3-5 - The Beaver Creek Township offices and park will be closed July 3, 4, and 5 due to seal coating the parking lot. The offices will reopen Friday, July 6, at 9 a.m. The transfer site will be closed Wednesday, July 4, for the Fourth of July and will be open Thursday, July 5, from 4-7 p.m.
 
Senior Project Fresh is back - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is again hosting the 2018 Senior Project Fresh Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Qualified older adults receive $20 worth of coupons that are used to purchase fresh Michigan produce at participating Project Fresh Markets, which include the Grayling Farmers Market and the Grayling Greenhouse. To qualify, you must be 60 years old or older, be a Crawford County resident, and meet maximum income guidelines. For a household of one, income must be below $1,871.58/month. For a household of two, income must be below $2,537.58/month. Coupon distribution will take place on a first-come, first-served basis. If you feel you qualify and would like to participate, contact Karl Schreiner at (989) 348-7123 to schedule an appointment. There will be no class this year, only one on one appointments.
 
Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Call Veterans Service Office (989) 344-3861.
 
Kirtland Garden Club to meet - The July meeting of the Kirtland Garden Club, a local group, will be a trip to Harbor View Lavendar Farm, Old Mission Peninsula, Traverse City on July 16. Guided tour of the nursery and grounds, $5 per person. July trip is open to the public. For carpool information and RSVP, call Nancy at 989-422-6017.
 
AARP Smart Driver Course offered - The AARP in conjunction with the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is offering the AARP Smart Driver Course. This two-day course will be held at the Free Methodist Church, 6352 West M-72, on July 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This course is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. There are no tests to pass. Cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members (all course materials are included in the cost). A certificate will be issued and some insurance companies offer a discount if you complete the course. Participants need to bring their valid Michigan driver’s license and AARP card if they have one. Lunch will not be provided through the course; however, participants can bring their own snacks and drink. The Senior Center will offer lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ($3 donation for people over 60, $5 charge for those under 60). Call the Commission on Aging at (989) 348-7123 to register.
 
Concert to feature Rod Stewart tribute artist - The community is invited to attend a free live concert featuring Donny Rod, a Rod Stewart tribute artist, at the Commission on Aging & Senior Center, on Thursday, July 5, at 5:45 p.m. As Rod Stewart, Donny goes back to the songs of Rod’s earlier years with the Jeff Beck Group and Faces to his recent songs from his “Great American Song Books.” Before the concert, enjoy a stuffed peppers dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Those 60 and over dinner is a suggested $3 donation and those under 60 the cost of dinner is $5. Senior Centers plan Chicago trip - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is joining the Bellaire Senior Center on a trip to Chicago. This five-day trip is scheduled from September 24 through September 28, 2018. The cost of the trip is $455 per person, which includes four nights lodging, motor coach transportation, eight meals (four breakfasts and four dinners), visit to the Museum of Science and Industry, visit to the World Famous 360 Chicago, guided tour of Chicago, Skyline Cruise on Lake Michigan, visit to the historic Navy Pier and Chicago’s Money Museum, gaming at a Chicago area casino, and much more. $75 is due upon signing and the final payment is due July 17.
