Writing program available at Artisan Village - “Let’s Write a Story” at the AuSable Artisan Village runs Monday through Thursday on July 15-18. Instructor Cathy Lester will show middle and high school students how to weave words into art through exercises in order to learn the fundamentals of creative writing. The cost is $20. Football Camp to be held at GHS - Grayling High School will host a Football Camp on July 8-9, from 4-7 p.m. Cost to participate is $20. Camp is designed for kids
in grades 9-12 to learn offensive and defensive fundamentals.
Drug-free coalition to meet - Crawford County’s drug-free coalition, Crawford Partnership for Substance Abuse Prevention (CPSAP), meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Grayling City Hall, 9-11 a.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, July 9. CPSAP is made up of members of the community who are interested in heightening awareness surrounding drug abuse and addiction, as well as working on prevention initiatives in the community. Shopping trip to Gaylord to be held - The next Out to Lunch Bunch trip is July 12. The trip includes lunch (self-pay) at a different restaurant around Gaylord each month and a trip to the Walmart Plaza for shopping. The cost of the trip is $10 per person. Bus will leave Grayling at 10:30 a.m. Lunch in Gaylord will be around 11:30 a.m. Shopping will be from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2/2:30 p.m. depending on group consensus. The passengers will choose a different restaurant for the next month’s trip. The bus will be parked in the Walmart lot so if you are done shopping early, you can get back on. Bus will be picking up passengers at the Grayling Mini Mall at 10:30 a.m. Please park your vehicle on the south side of the car wash and wait in the car for the bus to arrive. Bus will then travel to Frederic and pick up people at the Frederic Township Hall between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Please park on the north end of the parking lot in Frederic. American Legion Auxiliary to meet - The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Tuesday, July 9. The group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month.
COA to host Chicken BBQ Dinner - Summer is in full swing and everyone is invited to attend a Chicken BBQ Dinner on Thursday, July 11, from 4-6 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center. Menu includes BBQ chicken, baked beans, fresh fruit, ramen noodle salad, and assorted desserts with vanilla ice cream. The meal is a cost of $5.50 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3.50 for those 60 and over. The Commission on Aging & Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Adventure Packs available - As part of the Crawford Health Improvement Committee, the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is excited to announce the launch of Adventure Packs in Crawford County. The Adventure Pack Program includes 16 backpacks for youth and adults that can be checked out for free from locations across the county. The goal of the packs is to provide people with fun and useful resources to explore the outdoors. Each backpack comes with age-appropriate field guides for identifying plants, animals, and insects. Youth packs include nature bingo and supplies like binoculars, a bucket, and a bug viewer. Adult packs include hiking poles and a list of local places for easy access to the outdoors. The Adventure Packs can be checked out from Devereaux Memorial Library, Frederic Community Library, Hanson Hills Recreation Area, the Michigan State University Extension Office, and Northbound Outfitters. You can rent packs for the day or the weekend. You must be at least 18 years old to complete the check-out/rental agreement. Visit any one of the participating sites to check out a backpack or call ahead to confirm backpack availability and hours of operation.
Kirtland Garden Club to take trip - The Kirtland Garden Club, a local group, will carpool to Stone Cottage Gardens on Monday, July 15, for a short tour of over 800 varieties of day lilies and 600 perennials. On Saturday, July 11, the Kirtland Garden Club Plant Sale will be held at the Roscommon Art Festival, CRAF Center, Roscommon.
Senior centers team up for Smoky Mountains trip - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is joining the Antrim County Commission on Aging on a trip to Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mountains. This six-day trip is scheduled from September 30 through October 5, 2019. The cost of the trip is $565 per person, which includesfive nights lodging, including three consecutive nights in the Smokies; five breakfasts and three dinners; admission to Titanic: The World’s Largest Museum Attraction; three dinner shows, one evening show, and one morning show; free time in Historic Downtown Gatlinburg; a guided tour of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park; and motorcoach transportation. $75 is due upon signing and the final payment is due July 23.
