Senior Center to host free concert - The community is invited to attend a free concert with Brian Ashton on Thursday, July 13, at 5:45 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Before the concert, enjoy a pork roast dinner served at 5 p.m. The cost of dinner is a suggested $3 donation for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Caregivers Workshop to be held - Are you caring for a family member with memory loss? Have you started having difficulty communicating with your family member? Does your family member exhibit decreased judgment or changes in mood or personality? Do you become frustrated with his/her inability to do simple things? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, the Creating Confident Caregivers Workshop – hosted by the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center – could help. There are six sessions, meeting once weekly. The first session begins on Tuesday, July 11, and will run each Tuesday through August 15. The workshop location will be at the Grayling City Hall, 1020 City Boulevard. The sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Frederic Satellite Meal set for July 14 - The Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal will be held on Friday, July 14, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes breaded chicken fritter, red skin potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and apple slices. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. COA to offer DHHS assistance - DHHS assistance appointments are available at the Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center. Diane Howland, Eligibility Specialist from Crawford County Department of Health and Human Services, will be at the Senior Center on Wednesday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to take appointments. Howland will be available to meet with individuals to explain DHHS Assistance Programs, answer questions regarding eligibility requirements, case specific questions, and also take applications for assistance. Half hour appointments are available by calling (989) 348-7123. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street.
Project Fresh to help seniors purchase produce - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will be hosting the 2017 Senior Project Fresh Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Qualified older adults receive $20 worth of coupons that are used to purchase fresh Michigan produce at participating Project Fresh Markets (including the Grayling Farmers Market and the Grayling Greenhouse). To qualify, you must be 60 years old or older, be a Crawford County resident, and meet maximum income guidelines. For a household of one, income must be below $1,860/month. For a household of two, income must be below $2,504/month. Coupon distribution will take place on a first-come, first-served basis. If you feel you qualify and would like to participate, contact Jennifer Bricker starting on July 10 at (989) 348-7123 to schedule an appointment. There will be no class this year, only one-on-one appointments.
Senior Center to see Beach Bums games - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will be conducting two trips to see the Traverse City Beach Bums. The first trip is scheduled for Friday, July 14, and the second trip is scheduled for Tuesday, August 8. The $13 cost for each trip includes transportation by CCTA bus (Dial-A-Ride) and a game ticket. Meals are not included. The bus is scheduled to depart from the Commission on Aging and Senior Center at 5 p.m. and return around 11:30 p.m. Registration and pre-payment is required to reserve a seat. Blood Drive to be held on Friday - The St. Mary’s Family Center, located at 707 Spruce Street, will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, July 7, from 12 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
