Kids Day to feature activity tent - Huron Pines is partnering with Northbound Outfitters and Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital to host an activity tent in the Grayling City Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the AuSable River Festival’s Kids Day event on Tuesday, July 24. This year’s theme is sports. The activity tent will be promoting health, wellness, recreation, and natural resources with stationary bike “races” and trail snacks. Participants can learn about options for nearby hiking and biking paths.
Beaver, Beer, and Banjo event to be held - It’s time again for BBB – “Beaver, Beer, and Banjo” – a scholarship fundraising event to be conducted by the Lovells Township Historical Society at the Riverside Tavern in Lovells on Saturday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Barry Van Guilder and his daughter, Rachel Brooke, will be making toes tap to pickings on the banjo and strumming on the guitar. The festivities take place on the patio of the Riverside Tavern overlooking the North Branch of the AuSable River. Donations for beaver stew, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and sales of souvenir Beaver, Beer, and Banjo T-shirts will raise money for the Anna Biernat Scholarship fund for students in Lovells Township and Crawford County to attend Kirtland Community College. COA to host bean bag toss event - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is now adding cornhole to its activities list. “Bean Bag Toss,” or now, more commonly called, cornhole, will now be scheduled once a month after the Birthday Dinner. This month, cornhole is being held on Tuesday, July 24, at 5:45 p.m. Rain or shine. Everyone is welcome to come and play. This is a free event. Join the Senior Center from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a cranberry chicken dinner. Those 60 years of age and over dinner is a suggested donation of $3. Those under 60 the cost is $5. Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Call Veterans Service Office (989) 344-3861.
Senior Center plans trip to Beach Bums game - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will be hosting a trip to see the Traverse City Beach Bums on Thursday, July 26. Enjoy the game of baseball and make some memories as the Beach Bums play the Lake Erie Crushers. The cost of the trip is $15 which includes transportation by CCTA bus (Dial-A-Ride) and game ticket. The meal is not included; however, all fans can take advantage of the Meal Special Night at the game which includes a hot dog or brat, chips and a Northwoods Soda for $5. Or, join the Senior Center before you get on the bus at 4:30 p.m. for a beef stew dinner. Those 60 and over dinner is a suggested donation of $3 and those under 60 the cost is $5. The bus is scheduled to depart from the Senior Center at 5 p.m. and return around 11:30 p.m. Registration and pre-payment is required to reserve a seat.
