Historic Artillery Match to be held at Range 37 - The Loomis’ Battery and Michigan National Guard Camp Grayling will host the 2017 Long Range Historic Artillery Match on Saturday and Sunday, July 22 and 23, at Range 37. Access is at the gate north of the North Down River Road/Headquarters Road intersection. Please bring your own chairs, ear protection, and binoculars. The Saturday session runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Sunday session is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
‘Beaver, Beer and Banjo’ set for July 22 - The Lovells Township Historical Society’s annual “Beaver, Beer and Banjo” event is slated for Saturday, July 22, from 6-9 p.m. at the Riverside Tavern in Lovells. The Lovells Township Historical Society will be serving beaver stew (sort of like beef barley), beer will flow, and Barry Van Guilder will be making toes tap to pickings on his banjo. The festivities take place on the patio of the Riverside Tavern overlooking the North Branch of the AuSable River. Lovells is located in Crawford County on County Road 612 between Frederic and Lewiston. Donations for Beaver stew, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction will raise money for the Anna Biernat Scholarship fund for students in Lovells Township and Crawford County to attend Kirtland Community College. BBQ Dinner, Ice Cream Social set for July 27 - The community is invited to attend a Chicken BBQ Dinner and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, July 27, from 4-6 p.m.  Menu includes BBQ chicken, potato salad, green beans with mushrooms, mixed fruit, ice cream, and desserts. The meal is $5 per person with a suggested donation of $3 for people 60 and over. Dinner is open to the public and no reservations are required. Church to host Vacation Bible School - Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church will conduct “Hero Central” Vacation Bible School for children ages four to eighth grade on July 23-27 from 5:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. with the VBS program following from 6 to 8 p.m. Event will include music, stories, games, crafts, science, and fun. Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van.
