Hartwick Pines to host Forest Fest - Hartwick Pines State Park will host Forest Fest – a “celebration of Michigan forests” – on Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature fun educational activities to help kids and families learn about natural resources. There will be a Junior Ranger Activity Booklet for all interested. Other activities include making an animal track cast and tree identification. Smokey Bear may make an appearance. Frederic Satellite Meal set for August 11 - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, August 11, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes, sugar snap peas, and peaches. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. The Frederic Township Hall is located at 6470 Manistee, Frederic.  
 
Youth group to host paella dinner - Grayling St. Mary’s Youth Group will be sponsoring a Paella Dinner on Friday, August 18, at 7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Tickets are $15 each or $25 for a couple, and need to be purchased by August 14 at Grayling St. Mary’s Parish Office. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Paella Dinner includes a salad, paella (a saffron rice dish with vegetables, chicken or sausage, as well as shrimp for those who request it), fruit salsa dessert, and soft drinks. 
 
Swimmer’s itch presentation to be held - The Grayling Township Hall, located at Viking Way off of M-72, will host a presentation called “Swimmers itch drivers in northern MI lakes” on Friday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. The presentation by Dr. Thomas R. Raffel will include information on the factors driving swimmer’s itch in Michigan inland lakes, including Lake Margrethe.
 
Tractor Show slated for August 11-13 - The Wellington Antique Tractor & Engine Show will be held at Wellington Farm USA, located at 6944 S. Military Road, on August 11-13. The event will feature tractor displays and a tractor parade. The park also has a running sawmill, a blacksmith shop, a threshing machine, and a shingle mill. Public gate opens at 8 a.m. Admission is $5 per person (no charge for children under 10). For more information, contact Carl Hunt at (989) 915-1872.
 
Artisan Village to host free concert - The Artisan Village and Dharma Records USA will host a double concert on Wednesday, August 16, from 7-9 p.m.  Both Jake Allen and Michael Douse will be performing their own original compositions as well as some of their most popular covers. The Artisan Village is located at 219 Michigan Avenue. The concert is open to the public and there is no charge. Donations are accepted. For more information, contact Bea Patrick at (989) 348-5995.

The lunch includes chicken cordon bleu, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peaches. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and over and a $5 cost for those under 60. The Lovells Township Hall is located at 8405 Twin Bridge Road.
 
Supplemental Meal Program available - The Christian Help Center’s Summer Supplemental Meal Program continues through the end of August. If you participated in July, you may now come in for your August food. If you missed July, you can still come in for August. It is available Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Help Center is located at 300 Huron Street.  Call Dora at 348-6046 with any questions.
 
Learn about Medicare fraud at COA event - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center is hosting a Medicare Fraud Bingo Night on Thursday, August 17, at 5:30 p.m. Huntington Bank is sponsoring the event. The event will offer a meal of beef tacos at 5 p.m. Cost for seniors 60 and over is a suggested donation of $3 and anyone under 60 is $5. The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. For more information call (989) 348-7123.
