Blood Drive to be held at Senior Center - The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a Michigan Blood Drive on Thursday, August 22, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Appointments are preferred by contacting 1-866-MIBLOOD (642-5663) or The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Donors should get a good night’s sleep, eat a good meal, and drink plenty of fluids in preparation for their donation. You should also plan for the donation to take about an hour, bring photo ID with listed date of birth, know the name and dosage of any medications you take, and know the dates of any out-of-country travel in past three years.
Meetings set for local bowling leagues - Meetings are scheduled for the 2019-2020 bowling seasons. Thursday Morning Coffee League pre-season meeting will be held on August 22 at 10 a.m. at the American Legion. League is scheduled to start bowling on September 5 at 10 a.m. Friday Night Mixed Doubles pre-season meeting is scheduled for August 23 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion. League is scheduled to start on September 6 at 7 p.m. Tuesday Senior League will meet on August 27 at 12 p.m. at the American Legion. League is scheduled to start bowling on September 3. Baby to Toddler Closet to have Distribution Day - The Grayling Baby to Toddler Closet’s Distribution Day will be open on Thursday, August 22, from 11 a.m. until  6 p.m. in the basement of the Michelson United Methodist Church, 400 Michigan Avenue. Last customer at 5:30 p.m. Distribution is for people who have children up to five years old who require items of clothing. The Baby to Toddler Closet also has Boppie pillows for nursing mothers, and books for people to check out and read to their little ones. The facility also has ways for you to obtain cribs, mattresses, and car seats. If you have Spartan Family Fare receipts please bring them with you, because the Baby to Toddler Closet uses them as a fundraiser that helps volunteers pay for items. Log Drive Fundraiser to be held - HeadWaters Land Conservancy will be hosting this year’s Log Drive Fundraiser at the 28th Annual Lovells Bridge Walk on Saturday, August 17. The Log Drive Fundraiser is a large scale raffle where people purchase a numbered log that coincides with a raffle ticket. HeadWaters dumps these very small logs into the North Branch of the AuSable River behind the Lovells Riverside Tavern and the logs then float down to a line of people waiting to pull them out just south of the 612 bridge in front of Fullers North Branch Outing Club. The first four logs to reach the finish line are the winners. Prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place logs include a fly fishing float trip on the AuSable River, a summertime fun package including a yeti cooler, and a backpacking bundle including a tent, a sleeping bag, and a sleeping pad. The 4th place log winner will be taking home a $100 Amazon gift card. Logs can be purchased now by calling the HWLC office at (989) 731-0573 and logs will be sold during the pancake breakfast on the 17th. Logs are $5 apiece or $20 for five logs. Low-impact exercise session to be held - Unwind outside at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, at Hanson Hills. Join Huron Pines and Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital for low-impact exercise in the outdoors with warm-up and cool-down stretches, a 30-minute walk, and guided nature observation. Neighborhood Connections to be held at GHS - Crawford County Neighborhood Connections will be held on Thursday August 22, at the Grayling High School from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This event brings together Crawford County Community Resources and makes information available to residents of all ages. There will be car seat checks, a food truck from the Food Bank of Eastern MI, representatives from Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital, Michigan Works, Grayling and Crawford County Housing Commission, District Health Department #10, Michigan State Extension and 4-H, UpNorth Prevention and Catholic Human Services, Crawford AuSable Day Care and Preschool, Head Start, Early Head Start, Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center, River House, and many more community agencies. Butterfly Release event to be held - A Munson Hospice Memorial Butterfly Release event will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 11 a.m. at the Civilian Conservation Corp Museum (11128 N. Higgins Lake Drive). All are welcome to attend.
