Church to host free food distribution - Mount Hope Lutheran Church (905 N. I-75 Business Loop) will conduct a free food distribution event for residents of Crawford County on Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. until out of food. The event will include a hot dog lunch. Bring picture ID and bags/boxes for your food.
 
Free Chair Yoga class offered - This month Chair Yoga is slated for Thursday, October 25, at 6 p.m. at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center. Chair Yoga aims to give you the experience of classical yoga, even if you have mobility issues or find regular yoga challenging. Join instructor Nicole Wethington and enjoy the many benefits of yoga without sitting or lying on the floor. This class is free and open to the public. Dispose of unneeded medication - Help protect our children from accidental poisoning and protect our teens against drug abuse and overdose by disposing of unused and expired medications. Munson Healthcare Grayling Hospital, in collaboration with the Crawford Partnership from Substance Abuse Prevention, will be hosting a medication takeback event in the Medicine Shoppe parking lot at 500 N. Animal Shelter to elect board members - On Thursday, November 1, at 5:30 p.m. at 6211 West M-72, the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter will conduct an election for two members to serve three-year terms on the Board of Directors. The meeting – open to all members in good standing – will also include a vote on proposed by-law changes. Members wishing to be on the ballot as a candidate for the board must request in writing to the Board of Directors. Letters must be signed and dated and they must be received by October 24. Fire safety presentation to be held - What can you do to help keep yourself safer from the possibility of a house fire? Join Justin Wethington, an experienced firefighter from the Grayling City Township Fire Department, at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center on Thursday, October 25, at 5:45 p.m. for a fire safety presentation. Wethington will explore various safety options from the importance of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, portable fire extinguishers, cooking safety, and home escape plans to what to expect when you call 911. Enjoy a chicken cordon bleu dinner served between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. prior to the presentation. Dinner is a $3 suggested donation for those people age 60 and older and the cost for a person under 60 is $5. Baby To Toddler Closet seeks Family Fare receipts - The Crawford County Baby To Toddler Closet is collecting Family Fare receipts to raise money to help local children. Organizers have to collect $150,000 in receipts to receive $1,000. The Baby To Toddler Closet offers clean, nearly new used clothing for children, as well as items such as diapers, underwear, socks, shoes, toothpaste, brushes, shampoo, and baby oil. To donate receipts, drop them off at the Baby to Toddler Closet, Michelson United Methodist Church, 400 Michigan Avenue. Also, there are many businesses in Grayling that have drop boxes. Or, contact Rose Mary Nelson at (989) 348-2985 and she will send you a stamped envelope to mail your receipts. The Baby to Toddler Closet hours are the first Thursday and third Thursday of the month from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. with last customer at 5:30 p.m.   
 
Senior center to host cornhole play - Cornhole continues into the fall season at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center and everyone is invited to come and play. As weather permits participants will play outside and as it gets cooler organizers will bring the game inside to the Recreation Room. This activity is scheduled once a month after the Birthday Dinner. This month, cornhole is being held Tuesday, October 23, at 5:45 p.m. This is a free event.  From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. enjoy a pork chop supreme dinner. Those 60 years of age and over dinner is a suggested donation of $3. Those under 60 the cost is $5. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. For questions call (989) 348-7123.
 
Voter guides available - League of Women Voters nonpartisan State Voter Guides are now available. They can be found at Crawford and Frederic libraries, the Crawford County building, the Senior Center, and the Grayling Regional Chamber of Commerce.  Also in Otsego County at the Gaylord Post Office and Senior Center. RoboVikes fundraisers to be held at McDonald’s - The GHS RoboVikes will have fundraisers at the Grayling McDonald’s every Tuesday in October and November. Ten percent of all sales from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. will help support the team during the events. Active fundraising dates will include October 16, 23, and 30 and November 6, 13, 20, and 27.
