Senior Center to host Halloween Party - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will host a Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 30, at 5:45 p.m. at the Senior Center. Begin the party with a delicious dinner of Breast of Crow, Guts of Goblin, Green Worms, and Groggily Eyeballs (Mediterranean chicken breast, sweet potato, green beans, and grapes). Come dressed in your best costume. Prizes will be given for the most original, funniest, ugliest, and prettiest costumes. The cost for the dinner is a suggested $3 donation for seniors 60 and older and a $5 cost for those under 60. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale. Beaver Creek to host ‘Trunk or Treat’ - The Beaver Creek Township Hall will host “Trunk or Treat” on Wednesday, October 31, from 6-8 p.m. Bring your children to join the Halloween fun. If you would like to participate, bring your trunk and treats. Refreshments will be provided.
Hearing loss is topic for local presentation - Is hearing loss only due to the normal process of aging? Find out at a free breakfast and health presentation at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center on Tuesday, October 30, at 9 a.m. The topic will be Hearing Loss and your Health featuring guest speaker Dr. Ryan T. Hamilton from Advantage Audiology and Hearing Center. Find out the various health issues that may be contributing to your hearing loss. Free breakfast includes an omelette station, hashbrowns, muffins, mixed fruit, juice, and coffee. The breakfast and presentation will be held at the Senior Center, 308 Lawndale Street. Church to host Halloween event - “Trunk or Treat” will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, ELCA, at 710 Spruce Street (right behind St. Mary’s) on Wednesday, October 31, from 6-8 p.m. If there is inclement weather, event will be inside. Darth Revan from Star Wars will be available to take a picture with him from 6-7:30 p.m.
TEFAP food distribution to be held - The quarterly TEFAP food distribution will be held on Monday, October 29, at the American Legion (106 James Street) from 1-2:30 p.m. Please bring identification showing current address. Line up at the back door. Please bring someone to carry your bags if necessary.
Program aims to help people reduce stress - MSU Extension will present a program which introduces participants to the experience and practice of mindfulness to reduce stress. By offering alternative ways of relating to everyday life experiences, including thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and events, this program teaches and encourages the use of mindfulness self-care skills to help you feel better and enjoy your life more. The class will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 20, 27, and December 4 and 11 at the MSU Extension Office, 501 Norway Street, Suite 2. There is no cost for this program, which is sponsored by the Crawford County Commission on Aging. Registration is required by November 9 by calling (989) 348-7123.  
Fundraising campaign to benefit food pantry - Between October 24 and November 4, shoppers who visit the Grayling Family Fare will have the opportunity to donate $1, $5, or $10 at any checkout lane, with 100 percent of dollars raised going to CCCC Help Center  Food Pantry. In addition to supporting the local food pantry, store guests who donate during the 12-day fundraising campaign will also receive four coupons for Our Family brand products.
Veterans can get ride to VA hospital - Veterans living in Crawford, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Otsego, or Ogemaw counties can arrange to be picked up along the I-75 corridor for a ride to the VA hospital by a Disabled American Veterans van. Call the Veterans Service Office at (989) 344-3861.
