Senior Center to host Halloween Party
The Crawford County Commission on Aging and Senior Center will host a Halloween Party on October 31 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Center. Enjoy a frightful dinner of Ghoulash as well as a Costume Contest with prizes, a Candy Corn Guessing Game, and Halloween Movie Trivia. For more information, call Toby at 989.348.7123.
 
Trunk or Treat to be held downtown
The Grayling Main Street’s downtown Trunk or Treat event will be held on Halloween (Monday, October 31) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the 200 and 300 blocks of Michigan Avenue. There will be a cash prize for best trunk.
 
Concert event to benefit food pantry
Resurrection Life Center (2640 E. M-72, Grayling) will conduct a concert event fundraiser to benefit the Crawford County Community Christian Help Center’s food pantry at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 6.
 
Beaver Creek to offer Trunk or Treat
The Beaver Creek Fire Department will host the Beaver Creek Trunk or Treat event on Monday, October 31, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Refreshments and snacks will be provided by Weyerhaeuser.
 
Smart Driver Course offered for seniors
The AARP in conjunction with the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is offering the AARP Smart Driver Course. This two-day course will be held at 308 Lawndale Street on November 1 and 2 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This course is designed especially for drivers age 50 and older. You will learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging driving environment. There are no tests to pass. Cost of the course is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members (all course materials are included in the cost). Participants need to pay the day of the first class with cash or check. A certificate will be issued, and some insurance companies offer a discount if you complete the course. Participants need to bring their valid Michigan driver’s license and AARP card if they have one. Lunch will not be provided; however, participants can bring their own snacks and drink. Family Fare to host Halloween event
Family Fare (2470 I-75 Business Loop) will host a Trunk or Treat Event in its parking lot on October 29 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you plan to bring a trunk, please arrive before 5:30 p.m. 
 
Food distribution to be held at American Legion
TEFAP food distribution will be conducted on Thursday, November 3, at the American Legion from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Bring proof of address. Drive up to the back door.
 
Medicare assistance available
Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period runs through December 7 and is the time of year when you can make certain changes to your Medicare coverage. If you need help exploring plans, please call Tammy Findlay, Advocacy and Resource Coordinator at the Crawford County Commission on Aging at 989.348.7123 for a Medicare Assistance appointment.
 
COA offers Indoor Walking Group
Meet and walk together with the Commission on Aging Indoor Walking Group every Thursday starting November 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Kirtland’s gym on Four Mile Road. The cost to use Kirtland’s indoor walking path is $2/walk. For any questions please call Toby Neal at 989.348.7123.
 
Senior Center offers Euchre group
The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center would like to invite you to play Euchre Tuesdays at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center. For centuries, Euchre has been passed down from generation to generation. Easy to learn and fun to play, Euchre offers both beginners and experienced players the opportunity to develop valuable card playing strategy and techniques. The Euchre Group meets every Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Senior Center, 308 Lawndale Street. For more information call 989.348.7123.
 
Vaccine clinic to be held
District Health Department #10 will host a public COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinic at the Crawford County Crawford County Commission on Aging (4389 M-72 East) on October 28 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The new COVID-19 bivalent booster shots are available. The cost for the seasonal flu vaccine without insurance is $37. High dose and preservative-free flu shots are available for $46. The COVID-19 vaccine is free. Please bring your insurance cards and your driver’s license with you.
