VFW to conduct Veterans Day event
The VFW 3736 Carl Borchers Post will conduct a Veterans Day event at the Grayling American Legion at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 11. The event will include a luncheon (sandwiches, chips, dessert). This year’s guest speaker will be Bob Green of Mid-Michigan Honor Flight.
 
Festival of Trees slated for November 11-26
The Grayling Promotional Association’s 2022 Festival of Trees event will be held from November 11-26 at the Grayling Mini Mall. The Christmas Store will be available during the Festival of Trees. Santa will be at the event from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 12. Drawing for the winners will be held on November 27 with the winners announced on Q100 radio starting at noon.
 
Senior Center to host Veterans Day program
The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center, in partnership with ProMedica, would like to invite the public to a special Veterans Day program honoring all veterans on Thursday, November 10. All veterans are invited for a lasagna lunch at noon and then stay for this special program. This program will include music, readings, and a poem. ProMedica will be on hand to pin all veterans present. Lunch includes lasagna, mixed vegetables, bread stick, and an apple. All veterans will eat free. No reservations necessary. Diabetes program offered
Region 9 Area Agency on Aging presents an interactive online workshop of Diabetes PATH. Diabetes PATH is designed to help people take an active role in managing their diabetes. The free online workshop begins November 16 and runs through December 21, every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Space is limited. To register call 989.358.4616 or go to www.nemcsa.org.  This workshop is being offered in a partnership with MSU Extension and NEMCSA.
 
COVID-19 testing available
District Health Department #10, in collaboration with HONU Management, is supporting COVID-19 testing clinics in eight counties throughout its jurisdiction. Local COVID-19 testing clinics are available at Kirtland Community College (4800 W. Four Mile Road) on Tuesdays (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), Wednesdays (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), and Thursdays (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
 
MSUE offers climate change seminar
The MSU Extension Tourism Team will offer a free online seminar series, Critical Conversations in Michigan Tourism: Sustainability and Climate Change. This series will focus on how issues of the changing climate and sustainability impact tourism in Michigan and some steps your community can take to address these issues in your tourism and community development efforts. Sessions will focus on an overview of climate change and the Great Lakes, the impact on winter outdoor recreation, climate adaptation planning for local units of government, and possible funding sources for climate adaptation. Sessions will take place on Wednesdays, November 16 through December 14, from noon to 1:30 p.m. All sessions are free and will be recorded, but you must register to receive the link: www.canr.msu.edu/tourism/.
