2022 Festival of Trees begins in Grayling Mini Mall

Annual Grayling Promotional Association event also offers kids coloring contest, Christmas Store, and letters to Santa
The 2022 Festival of Trees – a Grayling Promotional Association event – opened to visitors on Friday, November 11.
The annual holiday event – held at the Grayling Mini Mall – gives people an opportunity to win gift baskets and prize-filled Christmas trees. Tickets are $2 apiece or six for $10.
According to the Grayling Promotional Association, the Festival of Trees will be staffed from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays until November 26 (except for Thanksgiving).
Gail Swope of the Grayling Promotional Association said this year’s event features more than 30 gift baskets and close to 60 trees. Swope said the 2022 Festival of Trees has a good variety of trees and baskets available, with prize packages worth hundreds of dollars.
“They’re great baskets,” Swope said. “Very different (tree) themes this year, which is fun. So many different great ideas. I think it gets better and better every year.”
The drawing of the Festival of Trees winners will be held on Sunday, November 27, and the ceremony will not be open to the public; however, Grayling Promotional Association plans to broadcast the winners on Q-100 radio at noon on the 27th, event organizers said.
The 2022 Festival of Trees includes a coloring contest for kids, according to organizers. The event will offer $25 prizes in four age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12.
Kids can also write letters to Santa and put them in the special mailbox near the ticket table, and participants will receive a letter back after the Festival of Trees ends, according to GPA.
Another annual Festival of Trees offering – the Memory Tree – gives people an opportunity to place a memorial ornament on the special tree in exchange for a donation. Money collected from the 2022 Memory Tree will go toward Cops For Kids, Swope said.
The Festival of Trees has a Toys for Tots donation box. Toys for Tots collects new unwrapped toys in the boxes to distribute to Crawford County children during the Christmas holiday.
As it has in the past, the Festival of Trees has a Christmas Store featuring donated “barely used” holiday-themed items and ornaments. The Christmas Store is open during the same hours as the Festival of Trees, GPA members said.
Organizers are expecting a large number of visitors to the Festival of Trees on Saturday, November 19, during the Grayling Main Street Christmas Walk. Crawford County Transportation Authority (Dial-A-Ride) buses will be available during the November 19 event to shuttle people back and forth between the downtown area and the Festival of Trees, Swope said.
According to organizers, the 2022 Christmas Walk will offer a variety of events throughout the day and evening on Saturday, November 19, including “Spend $10, Win Big!” at participating retailers, a Christmas Village at Paddle Hard Yard, Santa’s Wonderland at AuSable Artisan Village/Coffee by Steph, a Christmas Story Walk, reindeer at Huntington Bank, a Light Parade along Michigan Avenue, Christmas tree lighting at the County Building, Cookie Walk at Michelson Memorial Church, Brew Avenue Christmas Stroll, and more.
