Big Boy officials mum on closing of Grayling location

The Grayling Big Boy restaurant closed its doors on Friday, Feb. 16, with little notice to customers and employees.
A sheet of paper taped on the door says “Your Big Boy Is Closed,” and encouraged customers to go to the restaurant chain’s location in Gaylord.
Employees were given the opportunity to transfer to restaurant locations in Gaylord and Kalkaska.
Marvin Miller, a district manager for Big Boy, said it was a business decision to close the eatery.
“It was the owner’s decision to close it,” he said.
Repeated calls from a Crawford County Avalanche news reporter to Big Boy’s corporate headquarters in Warren, Michigan seeking a comment were not returned.
John Cherven, a Grayling accountant, whose family owns the property the restaurant is located on, said he had no information regarding why the restaurant closed.
Cherven serves as the property manager for his family.
“They have not contacted me to tell me what their plans are,” Cherven said.
