Skiers, snowboarders compete during second Winter Fun Days weekend
Grayling Recreation Authority’s (GRA) expanded Winter Fun Days festival continued on Saturday with two more events: the annual Big Air Competition and the Grayling Youth Booster Club’s Blizzardfest.
Eleven skiers and snowboarders participated in the Big Air Competition on Saturday. Each division had a limited amount of time for its competitors to hit the jumps and perform tricks.
Anthony Fisher took first place in the 12-and-under ski division. Charlie Martyn won the 12-and-under snowboard division. In the 13-and-up ski division, Joe Petroskey took first place. The 13-and-up snowboard division did not have an official competitor.
Saturday’s Winter Fun Days event also featured people taking advantage of a free tubing promotion and the Grayling Youth Booster Club’s Blizzardfest euchre tournament.
This weekend will feature more Winter Fun Days events. GRA made some changes to the annual winter festival this year, adding events and spreading them out throughout several weekends in February instead of having all of them on one weekend as in previous years.
On Saturday, Feb. 18, Hanson Hills will host a Star Wars-themed Cardboard Sled Box Race. Judging of the sleds is slated for 12:15 p.m. and the race begins at 1 p.m.
On Sunday, Feb. 19, the third weekend of Winter Fun Days will feature the Meijer State Games Of Michigan Hanson Hills Classic, a 14K cross country ski race. The Hanson Hills Classic is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
The Hanson Hills Classic course, according to GRA, will feature “hilly terrain. Classical race with interval starts. Course will have double set tracks.”
