Beatrice Zelek, 89, was called to the Lord on January 13, 2018.
She was born in Detroit, February 23, 1928, the daughter of Leon and Sophie Grzegorzewski.
She was raised in a family with strong Catholic values and Polish traditions.
Beatrice graduated from Wayne State University and earned a Bachelors of Arts degree with an emphasis on sewing, a talent she enjoyed all of her life. She created hundreds of quilts, dresses and crafts for family and loved ones.
Married to Joseph Zelek in 1951, Beatrice began work in the banking industry. After 30 years she retired and moved to Grayling to be closer to her son and his wife, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She enjoyed tending to her flower beds, quilting, sewing, church activities, cooking and visits to the casino. Above all things, her greatest happiness came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a woman who knew the Lord and found great strength through Him and joy for all He has given her.
She was gifted with many years here on earth and in return leaves behind the endless memories of her love, determination and wit in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Mark (Deb) Zelek; grandchildren, Jean (Rusty) Strohpaul, Joseph (Laura) Zelek, and Jamie (Jeremy) Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Joey, Russell and Ivy Beatrice; her brother, Leon (Gloria) Grzegorzewski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Zelek; parents, Leon and Sophie Grzegorzewski; sisters, Lorraine (Cass) May and Dolores Grzegorzewski
Her memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
