Geneva Ann Canfield
Geneva Ann Canfield, age 74, of Houghton Lake, died on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at home in the presence and comfort of her family.
Geneva was born September 9, 1944, in Vanderbilt, Michigan, the daughter of Edward Nelson and Vina Mae Walker. She married Lyle Canfield on October 29, 1968 in Jackson, Michigan.
She was a proud member of the Houghton Lake Church of God. Geneva was a founder of the Young Eagles of Houghton Lake’s Eagles Club Aerie #3201, and was the owner and driving force of Canfield’s Trash Service.
She was a traveling lecturer for Weight Watchers, and also helped in the writing and implementation of Conservation Act 6-41.
Geneva was an excellent cook, and was known for her bread made from scratch, homemade pies, and beef roasts… with carrots and gravy.
Her family will remember her strong, take-charge personality, which she passed on to her children.
Geneva will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lyle; children James Apps, Jr. of Houghton Lake, Michigan, Derinna (Glen) Dine of Kingsley, Michigan, Bonnie (Carl) Davis of Muskegon, Michigan, Laurie Apps of Houghton Lake, Michigan, Lylenette (Patrick) Canfield-Stack of Midland, Michigan; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Ellen Dine of Kingsley, Michigan; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sons Luke Canfield and Lyle Canfield II; grandson Sergeant Kirk Stowell II; sisters Beth Davis and Evelyn Davis.
Family and friends gathered on Saturday, July 20 at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.
A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 21.
The family prefers memorial contributions be made in Geneva’s name to her family for future designation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
