The Grayling Vikings – during a varsity girls softball Lake Michigan Conference doubleheader on Monday – posted a split vs. the East Jordan Red Devils, winning game one and losing game two.
In the first game of the evening, the Vikings won 7-6 on a walk-off hit. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Erin Prosser got a hit to drive in Sabrina Junttila, clinching a victory for GHS.
Junttila pitched all six innings for Grayling and picked up the win.
At the plate, Junttila was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, one run scored, and one stolen base. Emma Prosser was 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Baylee Baker was 1 for 3 with one run scored. Erin Prosser was 1 for 4 with one RBI.
In game two, the Red Devils won 14-7.
Erin Prosser was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Mallory Hatfield was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Rebecca Latusek was 2 for 3 with one RBI and one stolen base. Emma Prosser was 1 for 2 with a home run, two runs scored, one RBI, and two walks. Carlie Wilson was 1 for 1.
The two games vs. East Jordan were Grayling’s only contests of the week. Thursday’s scheduled contest vs. Roscommon was postponed to April 25 due to rain. The team’s scheduled opponent for Friday withdrew due to a change in its schedule.
Monday’s split put the Vikings at 5-3 overall so far this year.
“The three games we lost, the one thing that’s been in common is nine, nine, and eight errors. I don’t think anyone has beat us; we’ve beat ourselves. When we play good defense, we do well. When we don’t, things don’t go so well,” Coach Mark Golnick said.
Grayling (5-3 overall, 2-2 league) will play at Elk Rapids on Thursday, May 4.
