Softball team posts series split vs. Hornets at Harrison on Monday
Grayling catcher Jenna Schwartz hits 8th career home run, setting new school record
The Grayling Vikings won game one but lost game two during a varsity girls softball doubleheader played at Harrison High School on Monday night.
During the first game of the series, Grayling outscored Harrison 20-14.
Jenna Schwartz was 5 for 5 with a double, a triple, four runs scored, and one stolen base. Alison Brown was 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored, and one stolen base. Jordyn Schwartz was 3 for 3 with three extra base hits, four runs scored, and two stolen bases. Hailey Hartman was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Kaylynn Childers was 2 for 4 with a double. Kyung Joseph was 2 for 3 with one run scored. Molly Hunter was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Hannah Childers was 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Georgia Barber was 1 for 1 with a double, one stolen base, and one run scored.
The Hornets won 14-7 during game two of Monday night’s doubleheader.
Jenna Schwartz was 4 for 4 with a home run, a triple, three runs scored, and two RBIs. For Schwartz, a junior, it was her eighth career home run, establishing a new all-time Grayling High School record for homers. Emma Prosser and Meagan Malm held the previous record; both players finished their careers with seven home runs.
“Jenna Schwartz smoked the ball all night long,” Coach John Junttila said.
Jordyn Schwartz was 2 for 2 with four stolen bases and one run scored vs. Harrison in game two. K. Childers was 2 for 4 with two stolen bases, one RBI, and one run scored. Sabrina Junttila was 2 for 4 with one run scored. Hunter was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Brown was 1 for 3 with one run scored. Barber was 1 for 3 with one stolen base. H. Childers was 1 for 3. Sarah Jones had one RBI.
Grayling (1-3 overall, 0-0 conference) will play at Lake City on Thursday, April 18, at 4:15 p.m.
