Varsity girls fall to unbeaten Blazers at Kalkaska

Grayling High School’s varsity girls basketball team lost 60-27 vs. the Kalkaska Blazers – a team that was unbeaten at 8-0 going into the contest – on Friday night during a Lake Michigan Conference game played at Kalkaska High School.
The Blazers led by 30 points, 41-11, at halftime. The Vikings scored their first 11 points of the game with two inside shots by Mallory Hatfield, an inside shot by Ellie Carr, two inside shots by Madison Longendyke, and one free throw from Natalie Amy.
Grayling scored three points in the third period with three free throws from Hatfield. The Blazers led 54-14 going into the fourth quarter.
The Vikings scored nine points in the final eight minutes of regulation with a jump shot by Abby Pippin, an inside shot by Olivia Schreiber, two free throws from Hatfield, a basket by Esa Powers, and a long three-point buzzer beater by Hatfield.
Kalkaska won 60-27.
Hatfield finished with 14 points for GHS.
The Vikings (1-6 league, 2-10 overall) will play at Charlevoix on Friday, Feb. 3, at 5:30 p.m.
