Vikings end week with sweep of Gaylord Blue Devils

The varsity softball team from Grayling High School ended a busy week of games with a sweep of the Gaylord Blue Devils, securing a game two victory with a walk-off hit in extra innings.
The Vikings defeated the Blue Devils 16-1 in three innings on Thursday night during game one of a nonconference doubleheader hosted by Grayling High School.
At the plate, Sabrina Junttila was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Jenna Shelp was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and one RBI. Erin Prosser was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Mallory Hatfield was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Olivia Schreiber was 1 for 1 with three runs scored and two walks. Emma Prosser was 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Rebecca Latusek was 1 for 2 with one run scored.
Junttila pitched all three innings for the Vikings. She had two strikeouts and allowed one hit.
“We played really good defense that game and it was the best we’ve hit the ball,” Coach Mark Golnick said. 
The Vikings won 13-12 in game two of the series vs. Gaylord.
Junttila was 4 for 5 with three doubles and three runs scored. Hailey Pratt was 3 for 3 with a single, a double, a triple, and one run scored. Emma Prosser was 2 for 3 with four runs scored. Hatfield was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, including the game-winning RBI in extra innings; she had a walk-off single to drive in Mariah Burnett. Kyla Roach was 2 for 4 and Carlie Wilson was 1 for 2.

“Our series with Gaylord was our best all year. We played better defense and ran the bases well. It was a real gritty team win,” Coach Golnick said.
On Wednesday, in a series originally slated for Tuesday, the Vikings posted a split vs. Charlevoix, a Lake Michigan Conference opponent. Grayling hosted the doubleheader.
The Vikings won 3-2 in game one.
Junttila pitched all six innings for Grayling. She allowed five hits and had eight strikeouts.
At the plate, Junttila was 2 for 3 with two stolen bases. Hatfield was 1 for 2 with one run scored. Schreiber was 1 for 2. Emma Prosser was 1 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored. Shelp was 1 for 3 with one RBI and one stolen base.
In game two, the Rayders won 15-7.
Erin Prosser was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one stolen base. Emma Prosser was 1 for 3 with one run scored and one stolen base.
Hatfield, Erin Prosser, and Junttila pitched for the Vikings.
“We played really good defense in the first game. In the second game they out-hit us. We did have some errors,” Coach Golnick said.
The Vikings started their 2017 season with a split at AuGres on Monday night.
Grayling won 4-1 in game one.
Erin Prosser was 2 for 3 with one RBI, one stolen base, and two runs scored. Shelp was 1 for 2 with one stolen base. Pratt was 1 for 3. Emma Prosser was 1 for 3 with one RBI and one stolen base.
Junttila pitched five innings for GHS; she did not allow a hit, had zero walks, and struck out three batters. Hatfield earned a save with one inning pitched, striking out two and allowing one hit and one run.
In game two, AuGres won 17-14.
Erin Prosser was 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Emma Prosser was 2 for 3 with one run scored and one stolen base. Junttila was 2 for 2 with three runs scored, two RBIs, and one stolen base. Shelp, Latusek, Wilson, Baylee Baker, and Carmen Reilly also had hits for the Vikings.

“The first game we played really good defense, only one error. Second game, we had multiple errors,” Coach Golnick said.
The Vikings (4-2 overall, 1-1 league) will host Roscommon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20.
