Tickets available for Marathon Kick-Off Gala - The 1st Annual Marathon Kick-Off Gala Fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 12, at Kirtland Community College (4800 W. Four Mile Road). Doors open at 6 p.m. Introduction starts at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. Tickets are currently available at John Cherven’s office in the Grayling Mini Mall, at the Crawford County Avalanche (108 Michigan Avenue), or online at https://asrcm-2019-kickoff-gala.eventbrite.com. The Kick-Off Gala will feature music, dancing, a cash bar, door prizes, and a silent auction.
Coffee hour for veterans canceled - The Crawford County Veteran’s Service Office coffee hour for April has been canceled. The event is normally held on the second Thursday of each month. For more information, contact the Veteran’s Service Office at (989) 344-3861.
Out to Lunch Bunch trip is April 12 - Out to Lunch Bunch will now be on the second Friday every month. The next trip is April 12. Trip includes lunch (self-pay) at different restaurants around Gaylord and a trip to the Walmart Plaza for shopping. The cost of the trip is $10 per person. Bus will leave Grayling at 10:30 a.m. Lunch in Gaylord will be around 11:30 a.m. Shopping will be from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2/2:30 p.m. The bus will be parked in the Walmart lot so if you are done shopping early, you can get back on. Due to limited parking at the Commission on Aging, the bus will be picking up passengers at the Mini Mall at 10:30 a.m. Please park your vehicle on the south side of the car wash. The bus will then travel to Frederic and pick up people at the Frederic Township Hall between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Please park on the north end of the parking lot in Frederic. American Legion Auxiliary to meet - The American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Tuesday, April 9. The group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of each month.
Chronic pain workshop offered - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is partnering with the Michigan State University Extension Office & the NEMCSA Area Agency on Aging to provide a six-week PATH Workshop on Chronic Pain Management. PATH stands for Personal Action Toward Health and was developed and tested by Stanford University. Participants learn goal-setting, dealing with pain and fatigue, communicating with health care professionals, and managing medications. This six-week workshop series will be held on Tuesdays from 1-3:30 p.m. each week starting April 9 at the MSU Extension Office, 501 Norway Street, Suite #2 in Grayling. The class is free, but class size is limited, so registration is required by contacting Kaitlyn Grieb at 348-7123.
Senior Center to host Spring Fling - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center’s Spring Fling Dinner on Thursday, April 11, from 4-6 p.m. The Senior Center will be serving baked ham with pineapple sugar glaze, au gratin potatoes, Midori vegetables, and Dutch apple pie. The suggested donation for seniors 60 and over is $3.50. The price for those under 60 is $5.50. Dinner is open to the public. The Senior Center is located at 308 Lawndale Street. Kirtland Garden Club to meet - Gloria Kershaw, Master Gardener of the Sunrise Side Master Gardener Association, will present Rain Gardens during the Kirtland Garden Club meeting on Monday, April 15, beginning at 12 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Public Library in Prudenville. Rain gardens help protect nearby water bodies by filtering and soaking water back into the ground. Learn how you can mimic nature’s effects and grow a beautiful garden at the same time. This presentation is offered to Kirtland Garden Club members and their guests, as well as the public and prospective members. The April business meeting will follow Rain Gardens. Senior centers plan day trip to Holland - The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center is joining the Bellaire Senior Center for an all-day trip to Holland on May 7 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $75 and includes lunch at the Civic Center, a visit to the Veldheer’s Tulip Farm/Wooden Shoe Factory, and a Step On Tour of Holland. Frederic Satellite Meal to be held - The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging’s Frederic Satellite Meal on Friday, April 12, at 12 p.m. at the Frederic Township Hall. The lunch includes chicken stir fry, brown rice, peas & carrots, and a kiwi. Lunch is open to the public. The cost of the lunch is a suggested donation of $3.50 for those 60 and over and a $5.50 cost for those under 60. Munson Home Health will provide blood pressure and sugar checks and Bingo will be played following the meal. Call (989) 348-7123 for a reservation. Health program to be held at Michelson - Global Directors Mike and Karyn Harrison will be presenting a Discover OPTIMAL Health Event program at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church (400 Michigan Avenue) on April 6 from 4-6 p.m. Learn about setting goals, reaching them, and maintaining healthier habits.
