LWV offers broadcast program
On Tuesday, April 19, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. the League of Women Voters of the Grand Traverse Area will present a program by Tom Bousamra that focuses on successes and current goals of serving people before, during, and after incarceration. Bousamra – a retired secondary teacher with an M.A. in liberal arts and English – has served as Catholic Chaplain at the Grand Traverse County Jail for the past 36 years and is currently president of the nonprofit BDAI. BDAI targets mental health, addiction, advocacy and communication, family support, and supportive release. This broadcast can be viewed on the Traverse Area Community Media Facebook page, LWVGTA Facebook page, on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85998590430 or on Community TV Channel 189 (with Spectrum cable). Business Expo to be held at KCC
The Grayling Regional Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the return of the fully-in-person 2022 Business Expo. This will take place on Thursday, April 21, in a new location at Kirtland Event Center on 4 Mile Road. Senior Center Wii Bowling to begin
Starting April 20, the Wii Bowling Team at the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center will be meeting every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center to practice and is currently looking for new players. No experience is necessary. Come play, meet new friends, and have a good time.
Spring Fling Luncheon to be held
The community is invited to the Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center’s Curbside Spring Fling Luncheon on Thursday, April 21, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On the menu will be baked ham, au gratin potatoes, Midori blend vegetables, applesauce, and carrot cake. RSVP before the luncheon by calling 989.348.7123. The cost of the luncheon is $6 for those under 60 and a suggested donation of $3.50 for those 60 years of age or older.
Kirtland Garden Club to meet
This month’s meeting of the Kirtland Garden Club is slated for April 18 at 1 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Public Library. Speakers Leah and Alan King, King’s Farms, will be discussing lavender plants. They have been experimenting with lavender for many years and started growing it as a crop last year. Come to the meeting to be inspired on its many uses and informed on how to grow this perennial around your home. The Kirtland Garden Club meets year round to hear speakers on gardening topics, work on community beautification projects and take planned trips. Members participate in two annual fundraisers, a perennial plant sale and a garden tour featuring several locally invited gardens. Proceeds from the sale and tour are returned to the community in the form of local scholarships and selected garden or wildlife related projects.
Church to host women’s health session
Female physical therapists who specialize in pelvic toning will be at Michelson Memorial Methodist Church (400 Michigan Avenue) for an informational session on Monday, April 25, at 6 p.m. There is no cost.
