Hazardous waste day to be held
Community Hazardous Waste Day in Crawford County will be held on Saturday, June 10, at the Crawford County Building Parking Lot (200 W. Michigan Avenue). This year the following items are being accepted: Document Shredding, from 10 a.m. to noon, suggested donations $10 for a 13 gallon-size bag or box $15 for a 40 gallon-size bag or box; Scrap Tires (removed from rims), from 9 a.m. to noon; Electronic Waste, from 9 a.m. to noon, items collected include desktop computers, laptops, tablets, computer keyboards/mice, computer monitors, desktop printers, desktop scanners, desktop fax machines, gaming consoles, cell phones, DVD players/ VCRs/cable boxes, cables/cords/wires from electronics, CD players & stereo equipment/speakers, low grade electronics/small electronics. Golf Outing to benefit Animal Shelter
The Putt’n Fore Pets Golf Outing (to benefit the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter) will be held on Saturday, June 10, at the Grayling Country Club. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and shotgun start is at 10 a.m. Cost to participate is $260 per four-person team (includes 18 holes of golf and dinner). AAV to present concert
AuSable Artisan Village Gallery will present “Rock the Night Away” with Jabo Bihlman & Michelle Chenard on Saturday, June 17, at 7 p.m. at the Paddle Hard Yard. Find out more at artisanvillage.org. Seating is limited; get your tickets before they sell out ($30 in advance, $35 at the door).
State rep to offer office hours
State Rep. Ken Borton, of Gaylord, announced he will host a local office hour in Houghton Lake on Friday, June 16. The meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce, located at 1625 W. Houghton Lake Dr. No appointments are necessary to attend office hours. Those who are unable to attend but would still like to share their thoughts with the representative may call his Lansing office at 517.373.0829 or email KenBorton@house.mi.gov.
Walk in the Woods to resume
Commission on Aging Walk in the Woods resumes on June 7 at 1 p.m. at Hartwick Pines with a DNR interpretive guide. State DNR Park Pass for your vehicle is needed. Hike the Old Growth Forest Trail. Expect a two-hour visit and hike. The walks will continue each Wednesday in June. Try to car pool. Never walk alone. Be healthy and wise with clothing, sunscreen, health issues, bug spray, and water. COA offers class for caregivers
The Commission on Aging will offer a class for caregivers on Mondays June 5-July 17 (not July 3), 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the COA Lawndale Building. Stay to eat lunch at the COA from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Suggested donation for those age 60+ is $3.50 and price for those under 60 is $6.50.
