Church to host Special Evening Service
“A Special Evening Service With Pastor Duane Vander Klok” will be held at Resurrection Life Center (two miles east of the Grayling Burger King on M-72) on Wednesday, September 28, at 7 p.m. Refreshments following the service. Vander Klok is the Lead Pastor of Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, Michigan. Through his daily television program, Walking by Faith, Pastor Duane and his wife, Jean provide practical Biblical teachings for successful living to viewers in over 150 nations. Pastor Duane is also an author of numerous Christian books.
Superhero event to be held at Hanson Hills
Superhero September Super Main Event in Crawford County is slated for Saturday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at Hanson Hills Recreation Area. Donations of cash, superhero clothing, toys, or school supplies appreciated. Event will include a Mighty Milers Fun Run for children 12 and under, a Superhero 5K ($30 per person), and a Justice League Team 5K ($100 per four-person team). North Central Area Credit Union has hosted Superhero September in its branches in Grayling, Houghton Lake, Roscommon, and Standish to benefit the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center of Roscommon and the CAN Council of the Bay Region.
Walk-in COVID vaccine clinic offered
The Crawford County Commission on Aging will be hosting a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic and Booster Shot on Friday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new Senior Center location just east of Grayling on M-72. The COVID-19 vaccine is FREE. Booster dose will be available for eligible individuals. Vaccine clinic is for anyone who: has not received the initial COVID19 vaccinations; has received their vaccination but not the first booster; has received the first booster but would like the second. This clinic is walk-in, so no appointment necessary. All the COVID vaccines including primary and booster and are for all ages (6 months +). Please bring your COVID vaccine card. Medicare program available via Zoom
Join the Crawford County Commission on Aging on Wednesday, September 28, at 1 p.m. via Zoom for a presentation that will help demystify the issues surrounding Medicare. Tammy Findlay, Advocacy & Resource Coordinator, will discuss the various parts of Medicare including what is covered or not covered, Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug Plans, and how Medicare recipients who have low income can get assistance paying for Prescription Drug Plans and the Medicare Part B premium. Senior Center offers Foot Care Clinic
The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center offers a Foot Care Clinic the fourth Monday of every month from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are provided by Comfort Keepers. A nurse will soak the feet, trim and file toenails, lotion feet, provide foot care tips, and inspect feet for injury and circulation. The cost of the service is $25. Please bring two towels and a foot basin to soak feet. The Foot Clinic takes place at the Crawford County Commission on Aging, 308 Lawndale, Grayling. Call 989.348.7123 to make your appointment.
COA to celebrate birthdays
The Crawford County Commission on Aging & Senior Center would like to invite you to a monthly Birthday Lunch on Tuesday, September 27, to celebrate the current month’s birthdays. Everyone is invited to celebrate with lunch plus cake and ice cream for dine in guests only. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Suggested donation for those age 60+ is $3.50 and price for those under 60 is $6.
Camp Grayling to host special hunt
A two-day archery/crossbow hunt (November 11 and 12) for whitetail deer will be held at Camp Grayling for individuals with disabilities. You must be one of the following to be eligible to hunt: 1) Veteran with a 100% disability rating or deemed individually unemployable by the USVA; 2) Possess a permit from the Michigan DNR to hunt from a standing vehicle; 3) Considered to be blind by MCL 393.351; 4) Posses a permit from Michigan DNR to hunt using a laser-sighting device. Supreme court candidate forum to be held
Michigan voters are invited to hear from candidates seeking a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court during a virtual candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Michigan and the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan. The virtual forum will take place on Wednesday, September 21, at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The event will also be livestreamed on the League of Women Voters of Michigan’s Facebook page and uploaded to YouTube following the event. Candidates will share opening statements and answer questions with the purpose of informing voters and encouraging them to vote in the upcoming election. Public vaccination clinics available
District Health Department #10 will conduct public COVID-19/flu vaccination clinics at the following locations: Kirtland Community College, 4800 W. 4 Mile Road, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 27; Crawford County Senior Center, 4388 M-72, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 30. The cost for the seasonal flu vaccine without insurance is $37. High dose and preservative-free flu shots are available for $46. The COVID-19 vaccine is free. Please bring your insurance cards and your driver’s license with you. For those wanting to schedule their Pfizer or Moderna bivalent booster, or any COVID-19 vaccine, please visit https://www.dhd10.org/schedule or call 888.217.3904. DHD#10 offers at-home COVID tests
District Health Department #10 now supplies COVID-19 at-home tests; however, supplies are limited. COVID-19 test kits are limited at each DHD#10 office and are available on a first come, first served basis. Individuals are asked to take one kit per person, and up to four kits per household. The Crawford County Democrats will meet September 28 at 6 p.m. at the Crawford County Courthouse, 200 W. Michigan Avenue, Grayling. The public is welcome.
