150 Birthday Bash set for September 17
The Grayling Heritage 150th Committee and Grayling Main Street will conduct a birthday party for the Grayling community to celebrate the city’s sesquicentennial anniversary on September 17 in downtown Grayling (100 block). Live music will be available from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The event will include a costume contest, food, a souvenir booth, the 150th Committee’s parade float, and more.
Art sale to be held in Lovells
Lovells Township Historical Society Art Sale will be held on September 10 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lovells Township complex. The event is a fundraiser for two annual scholarships. Donated artwork includes pottery from Debi Anderson, beautiful woven goods, various pieces of fabric art, canvas wrapped photographs, a wide selection of frame and matted prints, wood bowls, and much more. Event will have copies of Dave Jankowski’s book “The Venerable Fly Tyers” and Vic Johnson’s book on fiberglass rods. Event will also have a special framed TU philosophy print signed by Art Neumann.
Quilt Show to be held at American Legion
Celebration of Quilting 2022 Quilt Show – presented by the AuSable Quilt Guild, Becky’s Best Sewing Machines, the AuSable Artisan Village, and the Crawford County Commission on Aging – will be held on Thursday through Saturday, September 22-24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 106 S. James Street (I-75 Business Loop). Admission is $2. More than 60 quilts will be displayed. Bucket Raffle will offer 20-plus prizes. Special quilt raffles will offer three quilts: Pineapple, Bow Tie, and Crossed Canoes. Tickets are $3 each, two tickets for $5, six tickets for $10.
Virtual Inland Lakes Convention to be held
The virtual “Michigan Inland Lakes Convention: Protecting Lakes Today for Tomorrow” will take place September 14-16. This virtual convention is hosted by the Michigan Inland Lakes Partnership and brings together lake scientists, government agencies, industry professionals, lakeshore residents, policy makers, and conservationists to spark new ideas and inspire stewardship of inland lakes. In addition to presentations, attendees will also have an opportunity to attend interactive workshops. The cost for students is $15. The deadline to register is September 11.
Comedy improv troupe to perform
The upcoming Gits & Shiggles performance at AuSable Artisan Village has been changed to Thursday, September 15, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The performance by AAV’s resident comedy improv troupe under the direction of Chad Patterson is free (though donations, which always are directed to a charitable cause, are accepted). AAV is located at 219 East Michigan Avenue in downtown Grayling.
Funeral planning event to be held
“Lunch & Learn,” an event to discuss early funeral planning, will be conducted by Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home at Bear’s Den Pizzeria (243 E Michigan Avenue) on Tuesday, September 27, at noon. Seating is limited; please RSVP to 989.348.2951.
Church to offer free food distribution
Mt. Hope Lutheran Church (905 N. I-75 Business Loop) will conduct a drive through Free Food Distribution event for residents of Crawford County at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16.
