Snowmobile drivers who drink and drive would face stiffer punishment under a proposal in the Senate. Sen. Harry Gast (R-St. Joseph), wants to make the penalties for operating a snowmobile while under the influence of alcohol the same as for driving a car while drinking.
Citizens from Crawford and the surrounding areas, including Roscommon and Oscoda counties, are sewing costumes and practicing their singing and dancing for the 1999 Milltown Follies.
The Grayling Hospital for Animals is getting a new home. The new location is on M-72 West of Grayling between the ReMax Real Estate office and J.J.’s Motor Mall. the animal hospital has outgrown its present home on Isenhauer Road, north of North Down River Road, and plans are to move into the new facility later on this summer.
The Grayling High School Wrestling team hosted Kalkaska and Cheboygan on Wednesday, February 17, to compete for the District championship. Grayling beat Kalkaska by a score of 48-24 and Cheboygan by a final tally of 51-25.
The Grayling Promotional Association (GPA) is once again at work for the good of the community. The GPA has begun a campaign called the “Beautification of Grayling,” an effort to make the town a place of beauty for all that live here and for those who are visiting or just passing through.

The City and Township of Grayling Volunteer Fire Department answered 75 calls during 1975 for a total of 1,443 man hours with one serious injury in the department occurring during this period. Causes of most of the fires were chimney, improper installation, poor maintenance of heating systems.
A project increasing the number of lines and telephone numbers in General Telephone’s Grayling central office is underway. Equipment installation crews are installing 100 lines for coin telephones and increasing the switch paths through the office allowing more calls to be made simultaneously which has the effect of making 100 new regular lines available for use.

The Grayling American Legion Post 106 is sponsoring a drive to raise $50,000 to build a new cinder block building and to install six new bowling alleys in it, with room remaining for two more if business were to warrant their addition. Plans now call for the building and alleys to be ready for use on Oct. 1, 1953.

Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Lewis and son, Mark, were in Grayling over the weekend. Fire wiped out Mr. Lewis’ drug store about a month ago and he says the structure is nearly complete.

Mr. Fred Ireland of Washington who has purchased 100 acres if riverfront down river will, during the coming spring, build a summer residence there. J. F. Hum will do the building and the plans are by A. C. Varney and Co. of Detroit.
J. K. Hanson is recovering from his serious attack of pneumonia.
