Due to an early spring trout fisherman everywhere are looking at the AuSable and Manistee Rivers, checking the temperature, and preparing for trout season. The water temperature, it seems, determines what kind of flies or bug hatch and when. “Trout season always begins on the last Saturday in April,” said Jack Millikin of Skip’s Sports Shop of Grayling, “but the third week in May is about the best time for fishing.” 
When the Camp Grayling Conservation Club passed out the applications for birdhouse kits to fourth grade students in Grayling and Frederic, Dan Rezney of Grayling Elementary brought his back to the school the very next day.
When the redi-cut kits were delivered to the schools a few weeks later, Dan took his home, went to the garage, and didn’t leave until the birdhouse was completely finished.
As part of the Recreation League’s Fun Night activities and awards night. Gloria J. Neilson was recognized for 50 years of league bowling.
Gloria, a native of Grayling, began bowling when she was 22 years old and hasn’t stopped since.
At a luncheon sponsored by the Michigan Supreme Court to honor area county clerks and their staff members for their work during recent court changes, Crawford County Clerk Sandra Moore and her staff were among many warmly thanked by Chief Justice Conrad Mallett.

April 17, 1975
Last Friday, April 11, the Crawford County Board of Commissioners and the Department of Natural resources held an open meeting, attended by well over 300 persons, to discuss the proposed removal of the US-27 dam.
Dr. Donald D. Burkley has completed continuing education requirements to retain active membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Association of Family Doctors.

Jack Wilson was elected as president of the Grayling Golf Club for this year at a meeting of the club’s new board of directors following general membership meeting Monday night. Ernest Johnson was re-elected vice-president and J. Lorne Douglas was re-named as secretary-treasurer.

Grayling is a hive of industry these days and everywhere there is an air of hustle. T.H. McArdie of Ionia and his crew of men are here  and have started the work of paving Michigan Avenue from the depot to Michelson Memorial Church.
Dr. and Mrs. R.L. Barrus have purchased the A.M. Lewis property on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Park Street.

April 19, 1906
Over half the village of Fife Lake was destroyed by fire Tuesday. They have no fire protection except of bucket brigade.
Dr. Underhill on the AuSable Ranch at Lovells will put in ten acres of potatoes this spring.
J.O. Goudrow has resided and reroofed his store and residence. It is a decided improvement.
