A member of the Crawford County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to serve on a task force that will explore options for a county-wide recycling program.
Carey Jansen, District #5 Commissioner, asked about the possibility of creating the task force during the board’s January 28 regular meeting (on Zoom). She said she would like to form a committee to explore options for county-wide recycling similar to Gaylord.
“Otsego (County) went down this same path with a citizen task force,” Jansen said.
Jansen said she would like to get one representative from each of the municipalities in the county – the City of Grayling and all six townships – to serve on the task force. She said the goal of the committee would be to come up with a “long term solution to benefit all our residents” with regard to recycling.
County officials said Jansen could proceed with the assembling of a task force.
“I’ve been contacted by several constituents within the past year about the availability and difficulty of recycling, specifically, area businesses not being able to recycle their cardboard. I am personally passionate about recycling and if we don’t make it as easy as possible for residents, they are less likely to use it,” Jansen said after the January 28 meeting. “I have observed Gaylord’s new recycling ‘dumpsters’ and was impressed with them. I think a county-wide option might save costs for local municipalities and create a more streamlined solution. I’m hoping the task force comes up with their own unique and creative ideas to help keep our local natural resources thriving for generations to come.”
Jansen said any Crawford County residents interested in serving on the task force can contact her via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
