On January 11, 2017, the Lord took another angel home as he was surrounded by his loving family.
John Edward Kuszak, Sr., 76, of Grayling, passed away after a three year illness.
John was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 1, 1940, a son of the late Emma Jean (Vance) and George Kuszak. John was the third of five children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Chinivare; niece, Lori; and brother-in-law, Jack Fox.
Surviving are brother, Frank (Debbie) Kuszak of Lansing; sister, Jean Fox of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
John married the love of his life, Anne Marie, on July 11, 1964. They were married for 52 years and blessed with four children, Dawn (Bob) Bressler of Newport, Mich.; Trisha (Pat) Benardo of Grayling; Jacquelyn Kuszak of Grayling; and John (Jane) Kuszak of Dearborn Heights; 14 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
As a young man, John served his country with pride in the U. S. Navy. He served active duty aboard the USS Forestal and the USS Saratoga from 1958 to 1963. John and Anne Marie retired in Grayling after having a vacation home there for more than 20 years.
John was a lifetime member and a five time Past Worthy President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, #3465 in Grayling. He was instrumental in donating life-saving defibrillators to Crawford County charities. John later organized the FOP. He became a Crawford County Sheriff Reserve Deputy and served for ten years. He found a passion for that job and passed down the training and disciplines to his grandchildren. John inspired his granddaughter, Madison, to become a Military Police Officer. Cpl. Madison Benardo, U. S. Army is an MP and is currently deployed abroad.
Memorial service for John and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Grayling Eagles.
