Patricia “Pat” Hunter passed away tranquilly in her sleep on February 10, 2021 in Brooksville, Florida. Pat was born in Grayling on August 8, 1939 to Lawrence “Bud” and Eleanor (Gorman) Hunter.
A proud mother to Brian Hunter and Sharina (Hunter) Brown, she also shared her home with many foster children over the years. Notably, Connie Woyan and Ronnie Ray were two children that remained close to her throughout her life. Pat not only had a big heart for people, but she also held a special place in heart for animals. She owned horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, fish, birds, and even opened her home to a fox, raccoon, and monkey. Pat had a heart of gold and never turned any human or animal away.
A graduate of Grayling High School, Pat’s life was spent serving people in a plethora of ways.
Pat had a strong conviction in faith and had originally attended the convent to become a nun. She then decided her life would be more fulfilling as a LPN, graduating from Alpena College and working as a nurse in Alpena, Grayling Mercy Hospital, and The Traverse City State Hospital.
For a short time, Pat also acted as a juvenile officer for Crawford County.
She then moved to Florida, where she continued to serve and improve the lives of those around her by taking care of people in their last years of life.
When she wasn’t serving others, Pat enjoyed spending her time fishing, horseback riding, going to drive-in movie theatres, picnics, swimming, reading, and was known for her amazing rabbit fricassee.
Pat also enjoyed traveling. She traveled back to Michigan frequently until she was no longer able to do so. Simply put, Pat was full of life and genuine love.
Armed with her strong faith, and ready for the next phase of her life, Pat was greeted by friends, family and her animals, and will undoubtedly be enveloped in love for eternity.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Eleanor Hunter; her sister, Jackie Lepsy; her son, Brian Hunter and her bonus daughter, Connie Woyan. She is survived by her daughter, Sharina Brown of Brooksville, Florida; her bonus son, Ronnie (Sue) Ray of Grayling; her brothers, Larry (Gail) Hunter and John (Deb) Hunter of Grayling; sister, Mary Kay (Jed) Blaauw also of Grayling, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews spread across many states and countires.
A small family gathering celebrating Pat’s joyous spirit and exuding love, is planned for a later date.
