Robert James Cox went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2016. He was born on October 29, 1979, to father James Richard Cox and mother Robin Marie (Hill) Cox.
Robert lost his hearing at the age of one from roseola. He attended special classes in the Crawford AuSable School District and later attended the Michigan School for the Deaf in Flint, Michigan, where he received his high school diploma.
Robert was a volunteer with the Frederic Township Fire Department and C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team). Rob was also an active member with the Tri-City Association of the Deaf and often attended functions of the deaf clubs in Owosso and Flint, Michigan.
Robert was as upstanding a young man as could be found on this planet and was always there to lend a hand when needed. His character was such that there was nothing that anyone could say badly of him. He was an active member of the Freeland Lions.
Robert’s hobbies were woodworking which he learned while attending the Michigan School For the Deaf. He was very creative in his woodworking, having made many beautiful projects for other people. He also liked disk golf and riding his recreational vehicles and camping; and he especially loved sharing time with his friends and family. Robert had a wicked sense of humor and liked pulling pranks, as did his father before him.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Richard (Rick) Cox; grandparents, Wilson Sr. and Ila Cox, Robert and Clara Varco and DeVere (Sonny) Hill.
Robert is survived by his mother, Robin Marie Cox Cromwell; step-father, Stephen Cromwell; ten step-brothers and sisters, many step-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins, uncles and friends.
The family would like to thank the emergency teams that worked so diligently to try to save his life. Our gratitude is overwhelming.
A memorial is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, at the Frederic Township Hall; Frederic, Michigan.
