More than 150 riders compete in bike races at Hanson Hills

Local event on Sunday, June 6, was first race in this year’s Michigan Mountain Bike Association Championship Point Series

More than 150 riders competed in the Hanson Hills Challenge Mountain Bike Race – the first in a series of Michigan Mountain Bike Association Championship Point Series events slated for 2021 – on Sunday, June 6, at Hanson Hills Recreation Area.
Brent Walk of Fun Promotions LLC – the organization that conducted Sunday’s races – said overall turnout was good.
“People seem to be excited about participating,” Walk said.
The Hanson Hills Challenge Mountain Bike Race featured divisions for riders of all ages and skill levels. Divisions included Elite, Expert, Sport, and Beginner. Depending on the division, riders completed one, two, or three 10.5-mile laps on the single and double track trails at Hanson Hills. Riders left the starting line in wave starts by division.
According to results posted by Fun Promotions LLC, Jorden Wakeley won the Elite Men Open Division with a time of 1:58:43. John O’Hearn won the Elite Men 40 Plus Division with a time of 2:11:11. Katie Giffing won the Elite-Expert Women Open Division with a time of 2:30:05. Hunter Post won the Expert Men Open Division with a time of 2:15:54.
John Osgood won the Expert Men 40 Plus Division (2:20:24), Todd Anthes won the Expert Men 50 Plus Division (2:17:31), and Jim James won the Expert Men 60 Plus Division (2:24:18).

According to race results provided by Fun Promotions LLC, 153 people posted finish times in the various Hanson Hills Challenge divisions on June 6.
Walk said riders were glad to be back together and competing.
“This is like a big happy family,” Walk said.
